The Obama administration's special adviser on Iran is moving over to the National Security Council, the administration announced Thursday.
The National Security Council announced that Dennis Ross will be named as special assistant to the president and senior director for the "central region" -- which includes the Middle East, Afghanistan, Pakistan and south Asia.
In the job, Ross will work with other advisers and directors for south Asia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, north Africa and elsewhere.
Israeli media reported earlier this month that the move was imminent. The switch comes amid turmoil in Iran over the country's disputed presidential election.
